Q. Can I join after my trip has started?
A. Yes but only providing you are not in need of BCF services when you join.

Q. How do I access service?
A. You will be provided with a unique membership number and the 24/7 alarm centre telephone number.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. Membership is currently £12 per month or £60 per annum. We also offer a lifetime membership for a fee of £500.

Q. Doesn’t insurance cover me?
A. Not usually, no.

Q. Is your blood safe?
A. All the blood we provide is sourced from blood banks which are regulated to the highest international standards.

Q. Where is your blood sourced from?
A. We source the blood from internationally recognised blood banks which are all fully regulated.

Q. I live outside the UK. Can I join?
A. Yes, we welcome new members from every country.

Q. How does it work?
A. Once our alarm centre receives a call from a member who is in need of our services, a courier is despatched from the closest blood bank, on the next available scheduled flight with the blood.

Q. How long does it take?
A. We are restricted to scheduled flights so it will very much depend where the member is.

Q. Which countries can you supply blood to in an emergency?
A. The standards of blood transfusion centres can change very quickly and we assess each request for blood on the information we have available at the time.

Q. Can I join if I need blood?
A. No, but providing the funding is available we will do everything we can to help to source and deliver blood.

Q. Doesn’t the blood go ‘off’ in transit?
A. Whenever we courier blood it is packaged to meet internationally approved standards and is able to remain within the temperature range of 2 - 10 degrees C for up to 36 hours.

Q. Can you provide all blood groups?
A. Yes we can provide all of the eight blood groups.

Q. Do you accept donations?
A. As with all charitable companies we are always most grateful for donations, however large or small.

Q. Is there an age limit?
A. No, we accept members of any age.

Q. Can I join for less than a month?
A. Yes but the minimum membership fee is £12.

Q. Is the blood safe in the country I’m travelling to?
A. The standards of blood transfusion centres can change very quickly and we assess each country on the information we have available at the time of a request for blood so it is not possible to list all locations on the website.

Q. Is the blood safe in the country I’m travelling to?
A. No, we source from internationally recognised blood banks which have the necessary facilities to screen and store blood to the highest possible standards.

Q. Can you store my blood
A. No, we have no facility for that.

Q. Do you need to know my blood group?
A. No. We recommend all travellers carry documentary confirmation of their group with them if possible (such as a blood donor card) but if this is not possible then the treating doctor will group the patient before contacting us.

Q. Can you arrange travel insurance?
A. No but there are a number of links on the website which should help.

Q. Do you have any exclusions?
A. Yes and these are listed under our terms & conditions.

Q. How does the treating Doctor know I am a member?
A. We recommend our members carry their membership details with their insurance documents; it is also a good idea if travelling in a group to let others know you are a member.

Q. What if I need more blood?
A. We always assess to potential need before the courier leaves but if further blood is required then we would arrange for an additional delivery.
